What is SB 2A?
SB 2A is a new Florida law passed by the legislature and signed by the governor in December 2022. The law aims to improve multiple facets of Florida’s property insurance market. If you have a homeowners policy with Citizens Property Insurance, you will now be required to carry additional flood insurance to meet the new SB 2A requirement.
Beginning April 1, 2023, homeowners seeking insurance coverage with Citizens who live in areas marked by FEMA as flood hazard zones will be required to carry flood insurance that meets certain requirements as a condition of eligibility for Citizens coverage. For renewing Citizen’s customers, the deadline is July 1, 2023. All policyholders, regardless of zone, must carry flood insurance by 2027.
